SUNDEW 2.0

Commissioned by Swarovski

Elaine Yan Ling Ng for Swarovski

Art Central, Hong Kong

March 2016

Sundew 2.0 is a continuation of discovery for the Swarovski project inspired by the carnivorous plant. With a more refined innovative approach of combining woven craft with pioneering computer sensing technology. Elevating the sensual experience by encapsulating our five senses intensely through different material movement.

The new structure includes the Swarovski crystal fabric which is engineered to become part of the movement, allowing light to reflect and refract through the transparent material, amplifying the surrounding space. Visitors dialogue impacts the movement of the piece through electronics that detect different pitches and frequencies of the sound. This commands and changes the form of the structure. Each layer has been carefully designed and choreographed to work in harmony with the other, coordinating their movement.
